A wedding anniversary is a very special time. It is a symbol of a couple's continued commitment to each other. An occasion like that should be honored with very precious gifts.
People besides the couple can give them the gift that corresponds with the year of their marriage. There is a list of traditional gifts and a list of modern gifts. For instance, in the United States, for the fifteenth year of marriage the traditional gift is crystal and the modern gift is watches. The gifts vary slightly from the United States to the United Kingdom. There are also flowers that correspond with each year of marriage. The fifteenth year is the rose.
You don't have to purchase a gift for the happy couple following those 'official gifts', however. I think a great gift would be something that corresponds to an activity the couple enjoys doing together. Encouraging the couple's shared hobbies is a lovely gesture. If the couple likes camping together, you could get them a gift certificate from the local outdoors store. They might like something a little more 'indoors' - like maybe they enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles have really come a long way from how they used to be. You could buy them a 3D puzzle to try.
When considering what the couple could get for each other, they could think of hobbies that they each like doing separately and buy each other stuff to go along with that. Encouraging time apart is another important part of healthy marriages. Knowing that your partner supports you in your personal hobby, without them, can really mean a lot. If the husband is a rock climber, the wife could buy him some new carabiners. Rock climbers are always in need of new carabiners. And perhaps the wife is a scrapbooker - a gift certificate to the local craft store is sure to be greatly appreciated.
The best anniversary gifts, really, are the ones where you keep that individual person in mind - or where you keep that particular couple in mind. Buying gifts that compliment people's hobbies and favorite things to do always lets people know you've really thought about them when shopping. There are some generic gifts that you could give any couple, but, the personal, 'I thought about you' gift will really say you care!
